Give it a chance. now that duck game was pretty silly. and katamari is cool. even though I never played it. it's about time people start thinking outside the box and stop making stupid shotting games. I mean who gets paid to do that?

Exactly all shooters are the same just look different

You have guns, you and you shot people. you can't really customize them or make them that much better like lets say a car game. it takes no skill it's like a fighting game. just mash the buttons. atleast some of these games that are "lame" or w/e atleast there different not the same damn game in a different package and perhaps they might even take some skill.

So wiz, you're implying that Counter Strike: Source is the same thing as Doom 1 in a new box?
If new maps with new play styles isn't customization, what the hell is? Predetermined colors and hues on 25 items that are the same besides a logo for Red Bull?
I mean, take a look at this screenshot of a game running on Half Life 2's engine:


Now, if you're talking as in upgrades to the character itself (in game), then you obviously have never heard of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. It has an RPG-esque system in that you can choose your clothes, your "artifact," (Things that formed as a result of the fallout in Chernobyl, that upgrade your health, your ability to withstand bullets, ect) even your "faction" based on in-game choices ..You can even drink vodka to lower your radiation levels. This in addition to numerous other things.

But you're right on the money with the "base it on some war no one cares about any more" claim. I mean who cares about the wars portrayed in Battlefield 2.

Ok let me rephrase it. Most of the shooters released in the past 2 years or more on consoles especially 360 seem to be the same thing wrapped in a different package w/ slight differences especially if there in the same series. Now I can't just single out shooters because pretty much most games out now adays are the same games in a different package. this goes for racing, fighting, and even sports games. so when a new game like this comes out thats different and not "cookie cutter" people down it w/ out giving it a chance. it's ridiculous.

so far for next gen the only games that I have seen that are some what different are.

Test drive unlimited. although another racing game and still has all the same basics it has a lot of new different things. such as instead of a series and story line of race after race it's a freee roam of thousands of miles of road based on the island oahu.

Viva Pinata. Very original and although based on a kids game it is very interesting and fun to play.

That duck game for PS3. although not quite the best game in the world it's original.

Katamari. Weird and different but still cool.

and that new offroad PS3 game I forget the name and don't feel like looking for it. althougnh still a rally type game it has some different aspects that are pretty cool.

i kind of disagree there wize i think there are quite a few more original games than that but yes... all these games recycling old engines and putting different texture maps on the same game are getting ridiculous.

They didn't even make any new materials. They *ahem* he recoded 90% of the Half Life 2 engine in an easy to edit coding language.

I just read that S.T.A.L.K.E.R, while it uses a whole new engine, uses the same "effect" textures. (E.G. The texture that shows how the sun looks or the water texture that figures out how to water reflects)

The most promising game coming for the ps3 is Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. I have a magazine, and I'll scan the pages. It is definately the most interesting game coming out for the next gen consoles. You can probably find some info on IGN or something.
