Ive been wondering for awhile now about if we put a PS2 game in the PS3 that is online capable would we be able to play with the same people playing that PS2 game online on a PS2.

So lets say Fergy wants to play Socom 2 and I want to play to.
He puts his in a PS2 and I put mine in a PS3.
His will load to the PS2 online server and when I go to go online on my PS3 it will load it to the PS2 server also.
Does that make sence?

Well I emailed Playstation with the question and they said it would take 24 hours to respond excluding weekends. In the email I recieved back stated the number to call them if it was an urgent situation so I did so and called them.

The lady that awnsered basically told me if you put a PS2 game in the PS3 and go online it would be playing on the PS2 online server.

Once I get my email response I will reply with what it states. But this is awesome news.

That is basically what I assumed. The online option on the disc would be coded to go to a specified server, on the disc.

Ya, it wouldn't work. Since The program coding is different between the 2 games. Just like THAW for 360 and THAW for xbox. Don't know if THAW for xbox is online. but i know you can't Play cross-console.

He didn't ask for two differant versions cross console, he meant the same game on differant systems.

The two consoles are supposed to be compatible on the same game, but I am not sure about usb headsets working on PS2 games.
