If you havent already heard its official now Linux is set for the Playstation 3.

sony is making playstations a brand of computer basiclly.lame.. i buy a console to go away from the computer look n feel. now there just combining them

Oh god. PSP all over again.

How much do you want to bet that they will be updating and blocking off features every two weeks because people will make a way to load isos and roms? I may decide to buy a PS3 with the money I make off of selling mine if this is confirmed.

Oh another idea is that the first hacks come from the boot disc people will be able to burn when this is released.

Doesnt that mean they will have to burn the OS to a disc? Wont that be a ISO? I dont think they will block ISOs or ROMs.

I don't understand the negativity about this...people just need to research or something. I've heard everything from the RAM would make it run like crap to the PS3 being virus-galore. Really, google is your friend.

I also don't get why people are mad about it becoming a PC, if you don't need one, don't use it. It won't change your gaming experience at all. It's like a whole nother partition on the hard drive...

At this point what console isn't basically a pc? even the 360 is basically a pc. it has all the aspects of one. Hard drive, online, video/voice chat,gaming,friends list, etc etc. the only next gen console that isn't really a PC at heart is the Wii.

Uhh I don't think you guys know what this stuff is anyways, so I'll tell you:

Kernel - basically the version of Linux.
gcc and glibc are necessary for compiling programs
I think the Cell SDK is for processor related things, not sure. Never heard of it.
OpenOffice.org - no, it is not a website, but a free office suite (Like Microsoft Word)
Firefox and Thunderbird - Web Browser and Email client, respectively
Nautilus - file browser

Edit: If you're wondering what gcc and glibc stand for... gcc = gnu c compiler (c is a programming language). glibc = gnu c library

Uh, no, I just know from learning about PS3... that is what I basically said, it's the System Developer Kit for Cell. A system simulator=developer kit. kthx bai smile.gif
